Ladycat & Bearcat Golf and Bearcat Football Update

The 2016 golf season began before school had started. The team has been practicing since the start of July, even the midst of the heat. The Bearcats have attended three matches and have won two of them. Coach Hunter

Coach Harper added a few words about teh football program and their involvement over the summer. The senior football Bearcats competed throughout the summer against great competition from Pine Bluff to Poteau. The Bearcats finished in the top four at the Red Devil 7-on-7 tournament in June and had great showings at team camps at Hackett, Mena, and Dover. There was an outstanding attendance for our summer FASTCATS and are looking forward to the season.
Senior and Junior high Bearcats are in the middle of their large fundraiser trying to sell the schedule cards through the end of this week. Their goal is to sell 1300 cards to pay for all their workout clothes.

The Junior Bearcat football team went to team camps at OBU and Ozark and looks to have a great year.

The MHS cheerleaders worked hard this summer by attending two stunt clinics and a four day team camp. At the four day NCA team camp, the cheerleaders participated in a variety of judged performances, as well as a competition against other squads that were present. The Mena Varsity Cheer squad came away from camp with one Red/Excellent Ribbon and six Blue/Superior Ribbons. They also received The Herkie Team Award for Leadership, Values, Teamwork, and Sportsmanship, and a Technical Excellence award for displaying superior skills in Motions. Although the MHS Cheer Squad will not be competing this year, they are looking forward to the opportunity to boost school spirit and a positive attitude towards everything Bearcat/Ladycat as well as TEAM Mena.

I am so blessed to be able to work with this group of young ladies, they are positive, hard-working, smart, and talented. They are truly top-notch girls who have incredible potential. I am looking forward to seeing them grow this year as students, leaders, and as a team. It's going to be a great year!

The Mena/Ashdown game proved that the margin between victory and defeat can be razor thin, and that was the case Friday at Ashdown when Mena lost a close battle to Ashdown 13-12.

With the exception of two big plays, the Bearcat defense held the athletic Panthers in check all night.  The Mena defense also came up with one of the game’s biggest plays when they forced a safety early in the fourth quarter to trim the Ashdown lead to 13-12...

Conference Re-alignment has Cats on the Move in 2018

The Arkansas Activities Association recently announced new conference alignment for the 2018-2020 cycle and the Bearcats and Ladycats will be on the move from the 7-4A back to the 4-4A conference. This move is a move from south to north and will place the Cats back in a conference with some familiar foes as well as new opponents.

This change is primarily a change for football conference play. Other sports will have some differing conference alignment depending on the sport. The decision about how spring sports leagues will be aligned is yet to be determined.

The new football league beginning in the fall of 2018 will be: Dardanelle, Dover, Elkins, Mena, Ozark, Pottsville, Subiaco, and Waldron. Most of these are holdovers from Menas previous stint in the 4-4A with the exception of newcomers Elkins and Ozark.

BFI is so happy to announce the date for the Bearcat Bash with Lady Razorback Coach Mike Neighbors!!! Plan to attend on August 1st and buy your tickets now. #bearcatbash17 #bringtheNeighbors #likeagoodNeighborsbearcatsarethere #bearcatshaveNeighbors
